In May this year, the World Poker Tour returned to Montreal after a four-year hiatus. Now, just months later, the Tour is returning to the same venue, as WPT Playground runs through the entire second half of October.
Once again, the festival will include all three major WPT events, the WPT Championship, WPT Prime, and WPT 500, along with a variety of side events with different poker games and formats.
Players from all over Canada, the US, and beyond are expected to flock to the prestigious Kahnawake poker club for a poker extravaganza that will give every player a chance to compete.
At the end of the day, they will all be looking to get their hands on a WPT Championship title, etching their name into the coveted Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.
In the words of WPT CEO Adam Pliska: “It was such a pleasure hosting a WPT Championship festival at Playground back in May, that we embraced the idea of returning for a second 2024 showing. Players will once again have a chance at three different WPT titles, including the most prestigious honor of being immortalized on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.”
$1.5 Million Guaranteed in WPT Championship
The WPT Playground festival starts on October 14 and will run for two whole weeks, with well over a dozen individual events on the schedule, including exciting mystery bounty poker tournaments and much more.
However, three WPT-branded events will draw the most attention and the biggest playing fields, and those are:
- $550 WPT 500 – $400,000 Guaranteed
- $1,150 WPT Prime – $800,000 Guaranteed
- $3,500 WPT Championship – $1,500,000 Guaranteed
With a guaranteed prize pool of $1,500,000, the WPT Playground Championship event, which starts on October 24, will be the main attraction of the festival, guaranteeing to bring out all the big guns on the Canadian poker scene.
Before the Championship can kick off, however, players will have plenty of chances at big money and WPT titles with the $500 WPT 500 event and the $1,150 WPT Prime, which feature $400k and $800k respective guarantees.
The $1.2 million in guarantees between those two events means players will have a chance to battle it out for massive prize pools with very limited risk, as the mid-major buyins allow a much wider pool of players to take their chance.
A variety of other events, including a $300 Mystery Bounty with a $30k guarantee, a $600 PLO with a $40k guarantee, a $1,100 Mystery Bounty with a $100k guarantee, and a $10,500 High Roller with a $200k guarantee will fill out the schedule, ensuring action never stops at the Playground Casino.
Win Your Seats at WPT Global
The WPT Championship event will be the highlight of the Playground festival, and WPT Global is offering plenty of opportunities for players to win their seats into it without playing a single hand of live poker.
The online satellites for WPT Playground are already running at WPT Global, and players from most of Canada and a variety of other markets can compete for their tickets at a fraction of the price.
Except for the Championship satellites, both WPT Prime and WPT 500 events will include online Day 1 flights, allowing players to play their way into Day 2 through the platform and only show up to play the final stages of the tournament live.
This presents an ideal opportunity for tournament grinders, as well as recreational players who can’t make a long trip out to Playground, to ensure a place in the money and only fly out for the key stages of the events.
