DraftKings to Launch Alberta Sportsbook and Casino

DraftKings will launch its online sportsbook, online casino and Golden Nugget Online Gaming brand in Alberta on July 13. The move makes Alberta its second Canadian province and its 34th North American jurisdiction for DraftKings Sportsbook.

The company said Alberta customers will be able to use same-game parlays, live in-game wagering and odds boosts on the sportsbook. Its casino offering will include thousands of games across DraftKings Casino and Golden Nugget Online Gaming, including Wheel of Fortune — Triple Extreme Spin, along with exclusive slots and progressive jackpots.

In Canada, DraftKings said its DraftKings Sportsbook, DraftKings Casino and Golden Nugget Online Gaming brands will be available in Alberta and Ontario. Greg Karamitis, the company’s executive vice president and general manager of sports, said Alberta has a passionate sports fan base and that the World Cup timing makes the launch especially exciting.

DraftKings said its Sports and Casino app and its Golden Nugget Online Gaming casino app are already available to download on iOS and Android. Alberta customers can also review the company’s responsible engagement tools through a link in the announcement.

Those tools include deposit limits, cool-off periods and self-exclusion. DraftKings also pointed customers to GameSense, ABiGaming.ca and the GameSense Info Line at 1-833-447-7523 for additional problem-gambling support.

The launch will come with a community donation. DraftKings said it will give $150,000 to Food Banks Alberta to buy more than 40,000 pounds of essential food items, including fruits and vegetables and baby formula, for distribution through the charity’s network.

Alberta’s market has been built in stages since 2024. This Day In Baseball reported that the province passed Bill 16 in May 2024, then introduced Bill 48, the iGaming Alberta Act, on March 26, 2025, to create the framework for regulated online betting.

The same report said Bill 48 created the Alberta iGaming Corporation as the provincial body to conduct and manage online betting, received Royal Assent on May 15, 2025, and had key sections proclaimed into force on June 9, 2025. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis then published its Internet Gaming standards and opened operator and supplier registration on January 13, 2026.

Casino.org reported that as of July 7, 49 operators had completed registration and paid fees. It also said Alberta will split oversight between AGLC, which handles regulatory enforcement, and the Alberta iGaming Corporation, which will run day-to-day market operations, while opening with a centralized self-exclusion system and strict advertising limits.

Under those rules, marketing aimed at minors, self-excluded people or high-risk players is banned, and bonuses and signup inducements cannot be broadly advertised. Active and retired athletes are also barred from appearing in iGaming ads unless the promotion is solely about responsible gambling.

Ahead of the launch, DraftKings will host a World Cup watch party on July 11 at the Wildhorse Saloon in Calgary. The company said similar watch events have been held in Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami and Hoboken.
