With the recent surge of interest in crypto-currency and non-fungible tokens, several global poker brands have begun dabbling in the crypto arena, most commonly with facilities to allow deposits and withdrawals through crypto-currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Now, WPT Global has gone further, adding custom NFT avatars to its poker client.
WPT Global is the latest poker network to erupt onto the scene, integrating the worlds of poker and crypto into a single cohesive package. Partnering with GAMAVRS, WPT Global plans to offer unique NFT avatars called Poker Heroes to give players the ultimate personal touch for their online identity.
As “one of the world’s largest poker networks”, WPT Global is a new poker client, serving players worldwide. With licensing from Curaçao, the operator accepts players from around the globe, including most of Canada. While Ontario players are excluded due to the new provincial regulations, Canadians from the rest of the country are eligible to register and play at WPT Global.
While the origins of WPT Global are a bit unclear for the time being, the operator came online earlier this year with very little fanfare. It is still ramping up its operations, but WPT Global is running cash games and tournaments for its global player pool, with much of that pool currently originating in Asia.

WPT Global: A Shiny New Client
The World Poker Tour (WPT) has been at the forefront of live tournament poker since the “poker boom” began in 2003. In nearly two decades of live tournament action, the WPT has established itself as one of the premier global brands for live tournament series. It forms one jewel in poker’s Triple Crown — an EPT title, a WSOP Gold Bracelet, and a win on the WPT.
While a WPT title has quickly become one of the most coveted trophies in a player’s trophy case, the brand’s online presence has come chiefly through partnerships with established third-party operators. WPT Global looks to be the first move from the WPT to put its brand front and center in the online poker world for the international audience.
While little is known about the backend partnership powering the software for WPT Global, a collaboration with an unknown Asian poker app fills the games with recreational players, mainly from Asia. Players can choose tables playing in US dollars or Chinese Yuan, with easy conversion on-site from one currency to the other.
This integration provides a somewhat unique player pool for WPT Global, and as Canada Gaming Review found in our early-access look at the client recently, “the games there are much softer than those you would find at most competing sites.”

Poker Heroes — Unique NFT Avatars
While the lobby and client for WPT Global have a fresh new look compared to competing sites, the main difference with other operators is the integration of Poker Heroes from GAMAVRS. The unique NFT integration will eventually allow players to upload their Poker Heroes NFT as an avatar on WPT Global for the ultimate in-game personalization. According to the information available on the WPT Global site, the integration should happen towards the end of the year.
9,999 Poker Heroes will be minted, and they are so much more than just custom art collectibles. As with any NFT, they are eligible for resale on common NFT markets, but Poker Heroes will also have “superpowers” in the poker world.
Holders of a Poker Hero NFT will get access to in-game and live-poker extras like exclusive poker game benefits and live events access. Holders can also look forward to in-game features like entry to exclusive online freeroll tournaments, VIP access to celebrity poker tables, and access to WPT and WPT Global live events.
