PokerStars Ontario continues to bring exciting opportunities to the newly founded market. Following a successful first iteration of the ONCOOP series, the operator launched the first ever tournament series for micro stakes players dubbed Micro Stakes Bonanza.

The series, which launched on October 24, lasted for a week and saw 67 tournaments play out across a variety of poker games and formats, giving away $8,800 in guaranteed prizes.

The week of micro stakes tournaments gave players plenty of opportunity to compete, as well as some extra value, as several events had overlay thanks to prize pool guarantees exceeding the participation numbers in the events.

Most tournaments reached their guarantees, though, and the player numbers slightly exceeded expectations. With more and more players joining the low stakes tournaments at PokerStars Ontario, the platform is becoming an ideal place for Ontario players looking to build up their bankrolls from the bottom up.

A Week of Micro Stakes Action

The Micro Stakes Bonanza at PokerStars Ontario launched on Monday, October 24, and went on for the entire week, with 67 tournaments over that period.

Each day of the Micro Stakes Bonanza had a unique theme:

  • Monday: Rebuy Tournaments
  • Tuesday: Mixed Games Tournaments
  • Wednesday: Deepstack Tournaments
  • Thursday: Shortstack Tournaments
  • Friday: Hyper Turbo Tournaments
  • Saturday: Turbo Tournaments
  • Sunday: Knockout Tournaments

Each day brought exciting action. Despite the small buy-ins and guaranteed prize pools, players were attracted by the variety of games and formats that PokerStars Ontario had in store.

While Texas Hold’em was the most popular game of the series, events were held across other games like HORSE, 5 Card Draw, 8-Game, Omaha High/Low, Stud High/Low, Courchevel, and more, demonstrating the power of the PokerStars software, the only one with such a massive range of game options.

Of all the events of the series, the Thursday Micro Shortstacks with a $5 buy-in got the biggest turnout during the week, with 184 people taking part and creating a prize pool of $837, while the $5 Progressive KO, Win the Button event on Sunday was the crowning jewel of the Micro Stakes Bonanza series.

The early success of Micro Stakes Bonanza has paved the way for future low stakes series on the PokerStars Ontario app, which should only bring bigger guaranteed prize pools and an even greater player turnout.

While tournament series like the ONCOOP and the Micro Stakes Bonanza are sure to run with some frequency at PokerStars Ontario, players do not need to wait for such opportunities to enjoy plenty of tournament action.
