DraftKings will donate C$1 to Feed Ontario for every wager placed through its Ontario sportsbook from Oct. 10 through Oct. 12, with the Canadian Thanksgiving campaign capped at C$100,000.
The promotion, which runs through Thanksgiving Monday, could provide the equivalent of as many as 200,000 healthy meals for local families. Casino.org reported that Feed Ontario estimates each donated dollar can provide two meals.
DraftKings employees also volunteered at local food banks in Ontario through its DraftKings SERVES programme. Sabrina Macias said the holiday was a time to give back and that the company was proud to support Feed Ontario’s network of food banks and hunger-relief organizations.
Feed Ontario represents more than 1,200 food banks and hunger-relief organizations across the province. Its 2024-25 impact report recorded more than 1 million people turning to the network for support and a record 16 million pounds of food distributed, valued at C$57 million. That volume was more than double the amount delivered in 2019.
The organization said nearly 40% of food banks had reduced the amount of food offered because resources could not meet demand, while half had cut essential wraparound support programmes. It also provided more than C$270,000 in grants for 20 community-led projects intended to build food-bank capacity.
The need has continued to grow. CBC, reporting on Feed Ontario’s Hunger Report, said more than 1 million people made 8.7 million visits to Ontario food banks between April 2024 and March 2025, a 1% annual increase and the ninth consecutive yearly rise. Usage was 87% higher than in the 2020 Hunger Report.
Although the share of people making their first food-bank visit fell to 34% from 43% a year earlier, the Hunger Report said use continued to increase because existing clients were relying on food banks for longer. Carolyn Stewart said people who had previously needed assistance five or six times a year were now visiting nine or 10 times.
