Ontario’s regulated online gambling market set a new monthly wagering record in July, reaching C$9.88 billion. The total was 4% higher than June, and the month was driven by a 6% rise in casino play.
Casino.org said non-adjusted gross gaming revenue, or NAGGR, came to C$413.6 million, up 3% month on month. NAGGR measures what operators retain before bonuses, promotional credits, taxes, fees and operating costs. Active player accounts rose to 1.365 million, also up 3%, while average revenue per active account held at C$303.
Casino play remained the core of the market. Online casinos generated C$8.78 billion in handle, equal to 89% of all wagers, while sports betting accounted for C$992 million and peer-to-peer poker C$116 million. On the revenue side, casino gaming produced C$330.4 million, or 80% of NAGGR, sports betting brought in C$77.8 million and poker C$5.3 million.
CDC Gaming said July total cash wagers reached C$9.9 billion and were the highest recorded since Ontario legalized its online market in 2022. It said July NAGGR rose 33.1% from a year earlier to C$414 million, active player accounts climbed 44% to 1,365,000 and average revenue per active account fell 7.6% year on year to C$303.
The report also said Ontario’s regulated market included 48 licensed operators running 83 active gaming websites. As reported in June, Ontario had already posted C$9.48 billion in wagers in May, the third straight month above C$9 billion.
