Ontario’s regulated online gambling market generated C$396.3 million in revenue in August, up 18.4% from a year earlier, even as monthly wagering, player activity and revenue all eased from July.
Online casino supplied nearly all of the annual growth. Casino revenue rose 25.4% from C$268 million in August 2025 to C$336 million, according to InterGame’s account of iGaming Ontario’s monthly statistical report. Sports-betting revenue fell 9.6% to C$54.4 million, while peer-to-peer poker revenue declined 17.6% to C$5.6 million.
The August total compared with C$334.8 million across the three verticals a year earlier. It was, however, 4% below July’s C$413.6 million. Average revenue per active player account rose 8% month on month to C$328, despite an 11% fall in active accounts to 1.2 million.
The decline followed July’s record C$9.88 billion in Ontario iGaming wagering, as reported in August. Total August cash wagers slipped 1% from C$9.9 billion to C$9.74 billion.
Casino stakes were flat month on month at C$8.78 billion. Sports bets dropped 15% to C$843 million, while peer-to-peer poker wagering rose 5% to C$122 million, showing that the annual revenue decline in poker occurred alongside a modest monthly increase in stakes.
Ontario opened its competitive regulated iGaming market on April 4, 2022, allowing eligible private operators to register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and contract with iGaming Ontario. A 2024 Ipsos study commissioned by the regulator and iGaming Ontario found that 86.4% of survey respondents who had gambled online in the previous three months had wagered on a regulated website.
