With a new year dawning and the final days of 2022 playing out, online poker players in Ontario can ring in the new year with huge prizes in the Winter Series (WS) on PokerStars Ontario.
The WS has been ongoing since Dec 16, with action proceeding into 2023, and there is a hot weekend of poker action planned as the calendar changes over from one year to the next.
It will be a hot New Year’s weekend on PokerStars Ontario as 2022 draws to a close and 2023 kicks off. Along with the regular schedule of games on the client, the CAD $1.5m guaranteed Winter Series is running events all weekend.
Among the highlights throughout the weekend will be multiple opening flights to the huge $30k guaranteed Phased event, Winter Series 1-H. There are multiple Day 1 flights running daily on the client for $50, and there is also a Low version of the same game for $5 with $6k guaranteed.
Excluding the WS 1 flights, there is nearly $500k guaranteed across the New Year’s weekend with about $300k guaranteed on New Year’s Day alone.
Most of the events in WS have the standard PokerStars series structure with three buy-in levels, but it is worth noting that the phased Event #1 only has two buy-in levels, and some games just have a single price.
Almost Half a Million Guaranteed to Ring in New Year
PokerStars Ontario is looking to ring in the New Year with almost $500,000 in total guarantees for players in its Winter Series currently running. The New Year’s weekend has just over $450k guaranteed on the final day of 2022 and the first day of 2023.

As mentioned, the main highlight of the weekend will be the Day 1 flights for phased WS 1. The two buy-in levels of that game represent the best value in the series, with the High version guaranteeing an impressive $1200 for every $1 of buy-in.
Excluding that event, there is still a lot of action and money up for grabs in Winter Series events on New Year’s weekend. The best value game this weekend outside of the phased event is the Winter Series Sunday Special on New Year’s Day. With a buy-in of $100 and $45k guaranteed, it offers at least $450 for every dollar invested.
The other major tournament to look for on New Year’s Day is Winter Series 30-L, which guarantees $400 per dollar invested and there are three games over the weekend that guarantee $300 per dollar.
