LeoVegas paused new signups from Alberta residents, showing visitors a message that read, “We have paused new signups in Alberta for the time being.”

In the same reporting, LeoVegas was described as not currently appearing on the AGLC’s approved operators list. LeoVegas communications manager Daniel de Morais said the company had “decided to stop access to our services from Alberta to fully focus on growing our existing business in Ontario.”

Two weeks before Alberta’s July 13 launch of regulated online casinos and sportsbooks, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) confirmed that the approved operator count for regulated online casinos and sportsbooks fell from 47 to 46. The reporting also said Grizzly’s Quest vanished from Alberta’s conditional registry without explanation.

Separate reporting on the build-up to the new framework said Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Minister Dale Nally wrote to stakeholders to confirm the regulated online gambling market launch on July 13. The letter said operators would need additional time to prepare for responsibilities and requirements.

The letter described the Alberta iGaming Corp. continuing to work with companies on the draft operating agreement, and suggested the finalized contract would be available by mid-April. It also said extensions of up to three months from July 13 could be granted until Oct. 13, and that the AGLC said extensions would only apply where operators could demonstrate a compliance path that was unattainable prior to July 13, 2026.

According to the same letter reporting, no deposits or bets are allowed until July 13 for operators starting from scratch that have been approved to begin pre-registering customers. The reporting also said the AGLC expected the number of provincially regulated iGaming sites to rise from one (the AGLC’s Play Alberta) to many, and that more than 50 operator sites had voiced interest in joining the regulated market.

Alberta’s regulated online gambling market was set to begin on 13 July 2026.
