DAZN Bet has secured an Alberta licence as the province prepares to open its regulated iGaming market on Monday, July 13. The company has said it plans to launch in the province in July.

Covers reported that the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission updated its list of registered and licensed iGaming operators ahead of the market opening. It also said there were no guarantees operators would be live because they still had to meet regulatory requirements and receive approval from the province.

Another report said more than 55 platforms had been approved to operate when the framework goes live, with 49 registered operators from around 30 gaming companies. The list includes FanDuel, DraftKings and bet365, and DAZN Bet was among the listed sports betting operators.

Play Alberta, the government-run iGaming platform, is already live in the province and is expected to remain in the market on day one.

The province laid the groundwork in spring 2025, when it passed Bill 48. That legislation introduced the iGaming Alberta Act, amended the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act, created the Alberta iGaming Corporation and designated AGLC as the market regulator. It also set a minimum betting age of 18.

Regulatory amendments to the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation were published in January to spell out how the private market would work. They created exemptions from registration, set advertising and social responsibility obligations and introduced temporary transition measures for operators moving into Alberta.

Under those transition rules, operators in the registration process may advertise to and sign up prospective customers, but they cannot add funds to accounts or take bets. Funding and betting can begin only after registration and due diligence with AGLC, a commercial agreement with AiGC and notification of market launch from AiGC.

The Alberta iGaming factsheet also set out a centralized self-exclusion system that will let Albertans bar themselves from land-based and regulated online gambling in one place. Alberta said it will allocate 80% of net iGaming revenue to operators and retain 20% for programs and services supporting Albertans, while also directing 2% of total gross gaming revenue to First Nations revenue generation and 1% to social responsibility initiatives.

DAZN Bet Canada managing director Richard Rawlinson said the brand had already launched its sportsbook and online casino in Ontario, which he described as a hyper-competitive market with 47 licensed operators running 81 gaming websites. He said DAZN Bet wanted to combine the credibility and sports heritage of the DAZN brand with a product tailored to Canadian customers, and that Alberta was the next expansion target in the near future.
